HC Deb 17 April 1929 vol 227 c245
22. Sir H. BRITTAIN

asked the Postmaster-General whether any arrests have been made to the present in connection with recent mail-bag robberies?

The ASSISTANT POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Viscount Wolmer)

Up to the present no arrests have been made in connection with the thefts which I assume my hon. Friend to have particularly in mind.

Mr. DAY

May I ask whether any further arrangements have been made for safeguarding the mails during transit?

Viscount WOLMER

Yes, Sir.

Colonel WOODCOCK

Can the Assistant Postmaster-General give any special reason why there has been such an extraordinary increase in the number of mail-bag robberies during the last six months? Is there any truth in the suggestion that the police have not been notified until some time afterwards?

Viscount WOLMER

No, Sir.
