asked the Minister of Labour the number of men and women registered as insured under the Unemployment Insurance Act in July, 1913, 1914, and 1928, and March, 1929, and the trades and industries covered by each of these periods?

As the reply is somewhat long and includes a number of figures, I will, with the hon. Member's permission, circulate a statement in the OFFICIAL REPORT.
§ Following is the statement:
§ employed wholly or mainly by way of manual labour in the following Indus- 97 tries: Building; construction of works; shipbuilding; engineering and iron-founding; construction of vehicles; and saw-milling. Since 1920 the scheme has applied to practically every industry except agriculture and private domestic service and has included certain classes of non-manual workers as well as those employed by way of manual labour. A list of the industries at present covered is published each month in the Ministry of Labour Gazette.
