§ 33. Mr. R. YOUNGasked the Minister of Health whether local authorities have had their attention called to their powers under the Public Health (Smoke Abatement) Act, 1926, and what these instructions or recommendations, if any, are; and whether any prosecutions have taken place in furtherance of the objects of the Act?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINA Circular on the Act was issued to local authorities. I will send the hon. Member a copy. Prosecutions have taken place, but to what extent under the Act I cannot say, as they have not to be reported to me. I may add that the best results are likely to be obtained by close co-operation-between the local authorities and those responsible, for boiler plant, and this practice is being increasingly adopted.
