HC Deb 12 November 1928 vol 222 cc494-5
62. Mr. ERSKINE

asked the Postmaster-General whether, with a view of popularising and encouraging the use of telephone extensions, he can see his way to reducing the cost in proportion to the numbers installed in any one building?

Viscount WOLMER

The rentals of telephone extension lines are based on average installation and maintenance costs, and the costs per line are not appreciably affected by the number of extensions connected to one installation. In the circumstances, my right hon. Friend regrets that he cannot reduce the existing charges, which amount to 6s. a quarter for each extension or 9s. a quarter if inter-communication is required.
