HC Deb 12 November 1928 vol 222 c506
94. Mr. R. MORRISON

asked the Minister of Transport whether he has any information as to the extent to which gas lighting is still in use upon passenger trains; and whether, previous to the Charfield railway accident, there have been within recent years any railway collisions which have been followed by fire caused by gas?

Captain Viscount CURZON (Lord of the Treasury)

I have been asked to answer this question. As regards the first part of the question, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by my tight hon. Friend on the 8th November to a question on this subject asked by the hon. and gallant Member for Heywood (Colonel England). As regards the second part, there has been only one case during the last five years where a railway collision has been followed by a fire caused by gas. In that case no persons were injured by the fire.

Captain GUNSTON

Can the Noble Lord say when the Board of Trade inquiry will present a Report on the Char-field accident?

Viscount CURZON

I aim afraid that I cannot.
