§ 22. Mr. HOLLINSasked the Minister of Labour whether, under the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1927, he will consider the desirability of establishing separate courts of referees for hearing the claims of juveniles under 18 years of age?
§ Mr. BETTERTONThe number of juvenile cases, so far as can be estimated, is not likely to be such as to justify the expense of courts of referees sitting separately to deal with them. Should the number prove to be larger than is anticipated, the matter will be further considered. It is already the practice for the local education authority or juvenile advisory committee, as the case may be, to be represented if they wish at hearings of juvenile cases.
§ Mr. KELLYCan the Parliamentary Secretary give any particulars as to the number of persons below the age of 78 whose cases are referred?
§ Mr. BETTERTONNo. Sir; not without notice. If the hon. Member will give me notice, I shall be pleased to supply the information.
