HC Deb 09 May 1928 vol 217 cc232-3
48. Mr. E. BROWN

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether it is his intention to publish a Memorandum showing the total amount of rates for public local purposes levied in each rating area in Scotland in the financial year 1927–28, together with an estimate of the amount of such rates levied in respect of each of the principal classes of rateable property?

The SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Sir John Gilmour)

I hope to be in a position to publish at an early date tables giving information on the lines suggested in the hon. Member's question, but in a rather less detailed form.

Mr. BROWN

Will this Memorandum follow the detailed Memorandum issued by the English Minister with regard to England and Wales, or will it follow the lines of the Memorandum in connection with the Rating Bill of 1926?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I am considering the form in which it should be issued. It will be similar to, but not exactly the same as, that issued by the English Minister.

Mr. BROWN

Can the right hon. Gentleman give any approximate date when we may look for this information?

Sir J. GILMOUR

No, Sir; I cannot give a definite date, but I am trying to expedite it, and shall get it issued as soon as I can.
