HC Deb 03 May 1928 vol 216 c1883
21. Mr. TREVELYAN

asked the President of the Board of Education if any local authorities have recently submitted plans for elementary schools showing class-rooms 12 feet in height or higher; and in how many cases has it been suggested to the local education authority that the height should be reduced below 12 feet?

Duchess of ATHOLL

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The right hon. Member will be aware that the Building Regulations issued in 1914 provided for the reduction below 12 feet of the height of rooms under certain conditions, and it has since been the practice of the Board to suggest a reduction in the height in cases where those conditions exist, and they are satisfied that adequate ventilation and lighting can be secured. My right hon. Friend has no record of the number of cases in which this suggestion has been made.
