HC Deb 01 May 1928 vol 216 c1522
55. Mr. KELLY

asked the Minister of Transport the number of claims made for compensation under the Electricity Act, 1919, for loss of employment by reason of the closing down of electricity stations?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of LABOUR (Mr. Betterton)

I have been asked to reply. Referees have been appointed by the Minister of Labour under Section 16 of the Electricity Supply Act, 1919, to deal with claims for compensation covering 200 employés of 19 undertakings. The majority of the claims were on the ground of loss of employment through the closing down of electricity generating stations. Other claims, of which I have no information, may have been settled by agreement between the parties.

Mr. KELLY

Has the hon. Gentleman received any representations as to the difficulties with which people are met when making these claims?

Mr. BETTERTON

No, Sir.
