39. Brigadier-General BROWNasked the Minister of Transport whether the claim on the Road Fund by the Irish Free State has yet been settled; if not, when is it anticipated that the transaction will be completed; and what is the amount still outstanding?
§ Colonel W. ASHLEYThis matter is still under discussion with the Government of the Irish Free State, but I hope that a settlement will shortly be reached. My hon. and gallant Friend will realise that pending agreement between the two Governments as to the basis of settlement it is not possible for me to state the amount outstanding.
§ Mr. MACQUISTENIf there is any sum due to the Irish Free State, is there any possibility of attaching that sum for the purpose of paying British civil servants the amount found due to them by the recent decision of the Privy Council?
