asked the President of the Board of Education which education authorities have raised the school leaving age with maintenance grants; what is the amount of the grant; and under what conditions is it made?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Lord Eustace Percy)

Of the four local authorities which have raised the age of compulsory attendance to 15, Carnarvonshire have adopted a scheme of maintenance allowances, the amount of the allowances being 3s. a child per week. The conditions under which allowances are given conform to those laid down in the Board's Regulations.

Mr. SHEPHERD

May I ask how many children are affected by this policy?

Lord E. PERCY

I should like to have notice of that question.

Mr. SHEPHERD

Have any protests been received from parents in connection with the scheme?

Lord E. PERCY

I should like notice of that question, too.
