HC Deb 26 March 1928 vol 215 cc806-9
39. Mr. SHEPHERD

asked the President of the Board of Education which local education authorities are responsible for the 544 elementary schools condemned as unfit for school purposes, and the degree of responsibility of each authority expressed in number of school places?

Lord E. PERCY

I am circulating in the OFFICIAL REPORT a tabular statement of the information asked for by the hon. Member. To give the total accommodation which the schools concerned are at present recognised as providing would be misleading inasmuch as it would include a quantity of nominal, as opposed to effective, accommodation. Instead, the statement gives the number of children on the books at the latest date for which the returns are available.
