§ 51. Sir ASSHETON POWNALLasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the main items which have contributed to the total of £80,000,000 recently estimated as the cost to the Exchequer of the general strike and the coal dispute?
§ Mr. CHURCHILLThe principal particulars were given in the Budget speech on the 11th April last year. The figure of £80,000,000 referred to includes the expenditure on the coal subsidy. There is unhappily reason to believe that the ultimate aggregate loss will prove even greater.
