HC Deb 20 March 1928 vol 215 c215
65. Mr. KELLY

asked the Minister of Labour the number of workpeople registered as employed in the china clay industry.

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

I am informed by my hon. and gallant Friend the Secretary for Mines, that the number of persons employed in and about china clay quarries in 1926 was about 4,700. The unemployment insurance statistics do not distinguish this industry separately from other forms of clay digging and stone crushing.
