HC Deb 20 December 1928 vol 223 cc3211-2
42. Sir ROBERT LYNN

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that American interests are seeking to obtain control of British communication companies in South America; and whether the Government is considering the possibility of taking steps to prevent these companies passing under Foreign control?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Godfrey Locker-Lampson)

I have been asked to reply. As regards the first part of the question, several instances have come to the notice of His Majesty's Government during recent months in which British telephone and other electrical properties in Latin America have been acquired by United States interests. As regards the latter part of the question, this is clearly not a matter in which His Majesty's Government have any power to intervene.
