HC Deb 19 December 1928 vol 223 cc3017-8
72. Mr. ELLIS DAVIES

asked the Minister of Health what was the ratio per 10,000 of the population in England and Wales treated for venereal disease in 1927; and what was the ratio in the county Carnarvon?

Sir K. WOOD

According to the returns furnished to my Department, the number of cases of venereal disease dealt with for the first time by the treatment centres making the returns was 21.5 per 10,000 population in England and Wales, and 6.5 per 10,000 population in the county of Carnarvon. The hon. Member will appreciate that these figures include not only cases of recent infection but also large numbers of cases which had been infected some time before they attended at a treatment centre.

Mr. DAVIES

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the average of cases in England and Wales exceeds those in the county of Carnarvon by 150 per cent.?
