HC Deb 03 December 1928 vol 223 c815
20. Sir NICHOLAS GRATTAN-DOYLE

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department the nature of the changes in the Canadian tariff in respect of preferences on British manufactures which are proposed in the recently issued Order in Council?

Mr. HACKING

In order to qualify for British preference exporters will, as from February 1st next, be required to show that 50 per cent. of the cost of production of their goods is due to British labour or materials instead of 25 per cent. as heretofore. I am not yet aware whether any new regulations have been issued in regard to the mode of calculation of the percentage, but I have called for a report on the subject from His Majesty's Trade Commissioner in Canada.
