HC Deb 30 April 1928 vol 216 cc1327-8
32. Mr. KELLY

asked the President of the Board of Trade the number of companies in Great Britain who are engaged in the manufacture of woollen textiles?

Mr. WILLIAMS

I am not clear whether the hon. Member's question relates only to limited companies; if so, the information is not available and cannot be compiled. For a list of companies, firms and persons engaged in the manufacture of woollen textiles, I would refer him to the Trade Directories. I might add that, in a recent survey of the wool textile industry of the West Riding of Yorkshire made by an official of the Wool Textile Federation, there were enumerated 1,384 firms, the number of whose employés in 1924 represented about three-fifths of the total insured workers in that industry.
