HC Deb 03 April 1928 vol 215 cc1796-7
66. Mr. YOUNG

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty if the addition of 34 warrant officers for 1928 is intended to augment the engineering personnel by promoting chief engine-room artificers and engine-room artificers to warrant rank?

Lieut.-Colonel HEADLAM

There is no net increase in the number of warrant officers and officers promoted therefrom for 1928, the apparent increase in warrant officers being offset by a decrease in the higher ranks, owing to a reduction in the number of officers who are now completing their 10 years' service in warrant rank and thus becoming due for promotion. No promotions to warrant rank, other than as required to fill wastage, may therefore be anticipated.
