HC Deb 03 April 1928 vol 215 c1797
67. Mr. DAY

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether any application has been made by the Sussex police authorities to the Metropolitan police authorities for the assistance of any London police to help them in the capture of the bear that escaped from Withdean Hall, Brighton; and whether the application has been granted?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Lieut.-Colonel Sir Vivian Henderson)

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative, and the second part therefore does not arise.

Captain BRASS

Is the bon. and gallant Member aware that bears are harmless things and are protected in Canada, where they roam about without doing any harm?

Mr. MONTAGUE

Can the hon. and gallant Member tells us whether this is a Russian bear?

Sir V. HENDERSON

I cannot say.

Colonel HOWARD-BURY

Could not the police be much better occupied than in looking after Russian bears?
