HC Deb 03 April 1928 vol 215 c1759
48. Lieut.-Colonel ACLAND-TROYTE

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he has received a resolution from the Devon County Council on the subject of the marking of imported cider; whether he has made any inquiries on this subject; and what action he proposes to take?

The MINISTER of AGRICULTURE (Mr. Guinness)

A resolution was received on 3rd March last from the Devon Agricultural Committee, who were informed of the procedure necessary in connection with applications for an Order for the marking of imported goods under the Merchandise Marks Act, 1926. The matter was subsequently discussed with the Agricultural Organiser for Devon. The Ministry is prepared to deal with an application under Section 2 of the Merchandise Marks Act, 1926, if, and when, made.

Commander WILLIAMS

Will my right hon. Friend draw the notice of the Chancellor of the Exchequer to this fact, and could he not meet it by means of an import duty?

Mr. GUINNESS

That does not really arise out of this question.
