HC Deb 09 November 1927 vol 210 cc188-9
28. Colonel DAY

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs how many typewriters are in use at the office of the Empire Marketing Board; how many of these typewriters are of foreign manufacture; and will he give the country of their origin?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Ormsby-Gore)

I have been asked, as Acting Chairman of the Empire Marketing Board, to answer this question. Of the 20 typewriting machines in use in the office of the Empire Marketing Board, 16 were made in England and four in the United States of America.

Colonel DAY

Will those four machines made in the United States be replaced by British machines?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

I am not sure. The method, as in all Government offices, is to indent on the Stationery Office and such typewriters as are in stock are circulated for use. I do not think that 1 can interfere with this practice in the case of the Empire Marketing Board.
