HC Deb 26 May 1927 vol 206 c2171
46. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Prime Minister whether it is proposed to withdraw the British Consular Officers from Russia as well as His Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires; and what Government remaining in official relations with the Russian Government will be invited to take charge of British interests in Russia?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Baldwin)

Mr. Preston at Leningrad and Mr. Paton at Vladivostok are not Consular Officers. They are attached to the British Mission at Moscow and will be withdrawn simultaneously with that Mission. The point raised in the latter part of the question is still under consideration.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Am I to understand that after the withdrawal of that Mission, there will be no Consular offices at all in Russia, and is the right hon. Gentleman aware that our fishermen are fishing in Russian waters and our ships visit Russian ports, and who is to look after them?

The PRIME MINISTER

Perhaps the hon. and gallant Gentleman will put any further questions to the Foreign Office.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

But has the right hon. Gentleman considered that at all?

Mr. H. WILLIAMS

Are our ships allowed to fish in Russian territorial waters?

Mr. G. PETO

Have not all British interests in Russia been confiscated by the Bolshevists many years ago?
