HC Deb 10 May 1927 vol 206 c187
9. Sir GERALD STRICKLAND

asked the Secretary of State for War whether the £200 a year heretofore applied from Imperial funds to obtain legal advice in Malta will be applied henceforth in securing the services of a legal adviser independent of the Civil Government?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Ronald McNeill)

I have been asked to reply. The work will in future be done on a fee basis on the recognised scale by selected local practitioners not holding legal appointments under the Civil Government.

Sir G. STRICKLAND

May I ask whether the right hon. Gentleman is prepared to advise a repeal of the Military Training Ordinance, enacted on 4th February in order to give the new Governor of Malta a clean slate in dealing with the new situation arising from the last answer of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, given yesterday?
