HC Deb 05 May 1927 vol 205 cc1748-9
19. Sir BASIL PETO

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that on Sunday, 1st May, dust-carts and water-carts belonging to the ratepayers of the Boroughs of Bethnal Green and Deptford were used in the Socialist procession to Hyde Park for the conveyance of children and others; and whether he will consider the introduction of legislation to prevent this growing practice of using the ratepayers' property for political purposes?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I have no official information in this matter. My hon. Friend is aware that the accounts of the metropolitan boroughs come under review by the district auditor and the case instanced does not seem to me of sufficient importance to warrant further legislation.

Mr. MACQUISTEN

Will the right hon. Gentleman take steps to see that, if dust-carts are to be used for children to ride in, the dust-carts shall be first disinfected?

Mr. W. THORNE

They are as clean as you are.
