HC Deb 04 May 1927 vol 205 c1625
56. Mr. DEAN

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when the rules under the Legitimacy Act, 1926, are likely to be issued, enabling applicants under the Act to apply to the Court to be made legitimate; and whether he is aware that there is a large number of people being debarred of, their rights under the Act in this respect through the delay in the issuing of such rules?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir William Joynson-Hicks)

No new rules are required as regards proceedings in the High Court, and the County Court Rules have been published and came into operation on 20th April.

Mr. PALING

Does that mean that such cases as I have sent to the Home Secretary will now be in order and can be proceeded with? Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that a good many of these cases have been held up, and that the county court officials and the local officials profess to have no knowledge of this matter at all?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

If the hon. Member will refer the county court officials to the rules published on the 20th April, which are now in operation, they will probably deal with his cases.

Mr. PALING

May I take it that the cases to which I have drawn attention can now be proceeded with?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

Certainly.
