§ Sir A. CHAMBERLAINThe Consul-General at Nanking reports that the Consulate-General there has been "completely gutted." The Consulate at Chinkiang has also been occupied by troops of the Sixth Army, but I have not yet received any information as to the extent of any damage or looting that may have taken place. It has been necessary to evacuate the Consulates at Chengtu, Chungking, Ichang and Changsha, and I have no knowledge of what may have happened to them after evacuation. I cannot at present answer the last part of the question.
