HC Deb 30 March 1927 vol 204 cc1252-3
64. Mr. W. THORNE

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware that when the forthcoming elections for urban district councils and boards of guardians take place in April thousands of men who have been obliged to receive Poor Law relief within the last year will be disqualified as candidates; and whether the Government is prepared to take steps to remove the disqualification?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of HEALTH (Sir Kingsley Wood)

My right hon. Friend is aware of the statutory disqualification to which the hon. Member refers. The Government do not propose to take any action.
