HC Deb 30 March 1927 vol 204 c1224
5. Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether Signor Orazio Pedrassi has yet been appointed Italian Consul-General in Jerusalem; and whether, in view of his previously expressed views on British policy in Palestine, His Majesty's Government has assented to this appointment?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

Yes, Sir. His Majesty's Government do not raise any objection to this appointment.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Is the right hon. Gentleman acquainted with the views of this gentleman on the British Empire and the Zionist movement?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

I know something about the views he has expressed in the past, but I think I am entitled to assume that the Italian Government would not appoint a Consul-General who would use his appointment contrary to the interests of the country to which he was accredited.
