HC Deb 30 March 1927 vol 204 c1257
71. Mr. W. THORNE

asked the Home Secretary if his attention has been called to the remarks made by the coroner at the inquest held at Hackney on the 23rd instant in connection with the death of a baker who had been sleeping in a bakehouse for a considerable time; and whether he intends taking any action in the matter?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I am informed that the local authority, who are responsible for the administration of Section 100 of the Factory and Workshop Act, 1901, have decided to take proceedings against the occupier.

Mr. THORNE

Is it the Home Office or the local authority which has control over bakehouses for inspection purposes?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I have already communicated with the local authority, which has the obligation to take proceedings if it sees fit.
