§ The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Earl Winterton)The use of stocks as a means, not of punishment, but of detention of violent criminals prevails to some extent in Burma. The local Government have already appointed a Committee which will consider the 2198 matter as part of its inquiries, and it is not proposed to issue any instructions regarding it.
