Mr. CHARLETONasked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether the Government have had under consideration the question of the appointment of the Statutory Commission on Indian Constitutional Reforms at a date prior to 1929; and, if so, whether he will inform the House as to the decision arrived at?
§ Earl WINTERTONHis Majesty's Government have already made clear the conditions in which they would be willing to consider the appointment of the Royal Commission at an earlier date than 1929, and they are constantly watching the progress of events in India When they are satisfied that the conditions which have been defined are present, a decision will be announced.
