HC Deb 14 March 1927 vol 203 c1650
20. Viscount SANDON

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether land titles for natives in Tanganyika will be statutorily established, in guarantee of the attitude of the present Governor?

Mr. AMERY

The principle that the natives have a right of occupancy in respect of the land occupied by them is recognised in Tanganyika as established by the Land Ordinance of 1923. The enactment of a supplementary ordinance designed further to establish and define this right has recently been recommended by the Governor, and is now under consideration.
