HC Deb 14 March 1927 vol 203 c1650
19. Viscount SANDON

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can give any information as to unrest in the Solomon Islands; what are its causes; and whether it is widespread?

Mr. AMERY

I regret to say that a telegram has been received from the Resident Commissioner of the British Solomon Islands Protectorate reporting that three constables and three native civilians have been murdered in Guadal Canal, and that a police party, under a district officer and one other European, had been sent to the area. The inhabitants of the village concerned are said to have withdrawn to the bush, and it is not yet clear whether any arrests have been made. I have no reason to think that disturbed conditions exist in any other part of the Protectorate.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Is this unrest due to Russian influence?
