BAKERasked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he can give particulars of the representations made to the Government of India by the All-India Postal Union, Madras Circle; whether he will state the present starting pay of postmen, overseers, sorters, head postmen, and departmental branch postmasters, and the leave and pension rules applicable to the men in the lower grades of the postal services; and whether the Government of India intend to introduce a uniform scale of pay for postmen for the whole of India, and Burma, with suitable local allowances?
§ Earl WINTERTONNo, Sir. The conditions of service of these grades are within the discretion of the Government of India, and my Noble Friend is not disposed to call for any report on the matter from them.
