HC Deb 21 June 1927 vol 207 cc1649-50
18. Mr. STEPHEN

asked the Secretary Of State for Scotland whether he intends

what percentage this bears to the total purchases?

The SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Sir John Gilmour)

As the reply involves a number of figures, I propose, with the hon. Member's permission, to circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Following is the reply:

to introduce legislation for Scotland corresponding to the Landlord and Tenant (No. 2) Bill now before Parliament?

Sir J. GILMOUR

As at present advised I do not think that such legislation is required for Scotland. I may remind the hon. Member that the Bill to which he refers deals with a system of land tenure entirely different from that which obtains generally in Scotland. If, however, it should appear that there is any widespread demand for an extension of the principles of the Bill to Scotland so far as they may be applicable, I should be prepared further to consider the matter.

Mr. STEPHEN

Is the right hon. Gentleman not aware that many of his own supporters are very anxious for a Measure on somewhat similar lines?
