HC Deb 15 June 1927 vol 207 cc996-7
44. Colonel VAUGHAN-MORGAN

asked the Minister of Transport whether maintenance grants out of the Road Fund are being made to highway authorities for unclassified roads on the basis of a uniform percentage of total expenditure, as in the case of grants for classified roads; and whether, in determining the amount of the grant, regard is given to the local highway rate and the injury caused by traffic which brings no benefit to the inhabitants?

Colonel ASHLEY

Grants are made towards maintenance expenditure on unclassified roads only when the roads are situate in rural areas and have been specially selected for assistance on account of their importance from the point of view of traffic. The grants are at a uniform rate of 20 per cent.
