HC Deb 15 June 1927 vol 207 c1002
33. Lieut.-Colonel HOWARD-BURY

asked the Minister of Agriculture, the amounts of barley imported into this country for malting purposes in 1925 and 1926?

The MINISTER of AGRICULTURE and FISHERIES (Mr. Guinness)

No information is available as to the quantities of barley imported for malting purposes, but the total quantity of barley imported in 1925 and 1926 was 15,779,162 cwt. and 11,570,343 cwt., respectively?

Lieut.-Colonel HOWARD-BURY

Is it possible to ascertain by means of the price paid for the barley how much is likely to be used for malting purposes and how much is used for feeding materials?

Mr. GUINNESS

I have made inquiries and find it is quite impossible.

Mr. H. WILLIAMS

Can the right hon. Gentleman say how much was distributed to distilleries and how much to breweries during the year?

Mr. GUINNESS

We have no means of getting that information.
