19. Mr. THURTLE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he is now in a position to make a further statement regarding the difference which has arisen with the Government of Egypt in connection with the reorganisation and control of the Egyptian Army?

Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSON

Lord Lloyd has been in constant touch with the Egyptian Government, and friendly conversations are still proceeding. In the circumstances it would be undesirable for me to make any statement.

Mr. THURTLE

When is the hon. Gentleman likely to be able to make a statement on the matter?

Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSON

I should not like to name a definite date, but I hope shortly.
