HC Deb 01 June 1927 vol 207 cc391-2
73. Mr. SAKLATVALA

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will inform this House as to the charge brought against Mr. Arie Karp, who was sentenced to 50 days imprisonment in Palestine for publishing the Red Aid Bulletin; whether he is further being recommended for deportation; and, if so, what are the reasons for this step?

Mr. AMERY

The High Commissioner for Palestine reported on the 3rd May that the individual mentioned in the question was awaiting trial on charges of participating in an illegal assembly and of interfering with the police in the performance of their duties. He was further charged with being a member of an illegal association. I have received no report on the result of his trial, and I am not aware whether he has been recommended for deportation.

Mr. SAKLATVALA

May the House know what was that illegal association?

Mr. AMERY

No, Sir, I have not been informed in detail on the matter.
