HC Deb 26 July 1927 vol 209 cc1000-1
25. Sir R. HUTCHISON

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many credit societies have been formed in each county in Scotland; and how many farmers in Scotland have received loans under the Agricultural Credits Act of 1923?

Sir J. GILMOUR

Three agricultural credit societies were formed in Scotland under Section 2 of the Agricultural Credits Act, 1923, one in Ross-shire, one in Renfrewshire and one in Kincardineshire. It is understood that the last-mentioned society has made loans to 20 members, but that no loans have been made by the other two societies. Up to 31st March, 1927, 160 loans amounting to a total of £544, 064, were made to Scottish farmers by the Public Works Loan Commissioners under Section 1 of the Act.
