HC Deb 25 July 1927 vol 209 cc833-4
35. Mr. THURTLE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he has in his Department any information as to the circumstances in which the ships of Von Spee's squadron obtained coal from the steamship "Lowther Range" during the War; and whether any action was taken against the owners of this vessel?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Lieut.-Colonel Headlam)

There is no truth in the statement that any ships of Von Spee's squadron or any other of the enemy's ships obtained coal from the steamship "Lowther Range," and consequently no action was taken against the owners of the vessel.

Lieut.-Colonel Sir FREDERICK HALL

Will the Parliamentary Secretary take care that his reply given to this House is freely and generally published?

Mr. AUSTIN HOPKINSON

Is it not the case that this explanation has been given to the public Press by the owners of this ship?
