§ 34. Sir W. DAVISONasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, whether there is any proposal to extend the buildings of Bedford College, in Regent's Park; and, if so, how the amenities of the park will be affected?
§ Captain HACKINGThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. Drawings of the proposed additions and alterations will be placed in the Tea-room in order that Members may see exactly what is proposed.
§ Sir W. DAVISONCan the Under-Secretary say whether the bulk of the building will not be so increased as to interfere with the amenities of the Park?
§ Captain HACKINGThe land upon which Bedford College is built has never been part of the Park. I understand this land is leased to Bedford College and the lease does not expire until 2010.
§ Sir W. DAVISONIt is built within the Park area, and is it not provided that the buildings should not be so materially increased as to interfere with the amenities of the Park?
§ Captain HACKINGAs a matter of fact, not a great deal more land will be built upon, and the buildings will be much more beautiful than the present building.
