HC Deb 13 July 1927 vol 208 cc2129-30
29. Major GLYN

asked the Postmaster-General what was the total number of subscribers to the Telephone Service on 31st March last; how many of these were connected to local branch exchanges having not more than 50 subscribers; and how do these figures compare, respectively, with those of 1922 and 1913?

Viscount WOLMER

Statistics showing the precise information asked for by my hon. and gallant Friend are not readily available. The following figures of exchange lines may, however, meet his requirements:

All exchanges. Exchanges with less than 50 lines.
May, 1913 452,514 29,608
January, 1922 584,103 35,212
March, 1927 962,173 50,653
