HC Deb 14 February 1927 vol 202 cc545-6
35. Viscount SANDON

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether his attention has been called to the proposal of the Prime Minister of Canada as to the exchange of direct representatives of the United Kingdom and Dominions Governments; and whether the Government will appoint such officials and be ready to receive them in London in the case of all Dominions being agreeable to such a proposal?

Mr. AMERY

I would invite reference to the Resolution submitted to the Im- perial Conference by the Inter-Imperial Relations Committee as to the desirability of developing a system of personal contact, both in London and in the Dominion capitals, to supplement the present system of inter-communication and the reciprocal supply of information on affairs requiring joint consideration (page 27 of Cmd. 2768). His Majesty's Government in Great Britain accept this Resolution, but, as will be seen from its terms, the manner of its application in any particular case is a matter for discussion between the Governments concerned.

Viscount SANDON

Are such conversations in fact taking place?

Mr. AMERY

To some extent they have taken place. We are beginning to discuss the matter.
