HC Deb 10 February 1927 vol 202 c294
73. Colonel APPLIN

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is satisfied that the small arms school and the Government factory at Enfield are sufficiently equipped with the staff and plant necessary to conduct all experiments for the production of the rifle and ammunition most suitable for national requirements; if not, in what way does he suggest that such experiments may be supplemented; what is his estimate of the cost of such supplementary experiments; and over what period of time will they extend?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

Design and research work in connection with rifles and ammunition is carried out by the Design and Research Departments at Woolwich under the general direction of the Small Arms Committee. Orders for experimental manufacture following on the work of these departments are placed with the Ordnance Factories or the trade, as may be most convenient, and there is no reason to believe that the facilities for this work are inadequate.
