HC Deb 10 February 1927 vol 202 c290
64. Sir F. WISE

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if any negotiations have been going on with a view to the sale of the Iraq railways?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Amery)

No negotiations are at present in progress with a view to the sale of the Iraq railways, but His Majesty's Government have from time to time received enquiries on the subject from interested financial groups. The condition, management and prospects of the Iraq railway system have recently been investigated by a consulting engineer and until his report has been received and considered by the British and Iraq Governments, no final decision in regard to the future of the railways can be reached.

Sir F. WISE

When is this report likely to be issued and available?

Mr. AMERY

I hope it will be ready in a few weeks' time, but the officer who is making it has not come back yet.
