HC Deb 10 February 1927 vol 202 c284
42. Captain FRASER

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, in this year's Budget, he will try to reduce the tax upon beer and whisky and will consider recouping himself for loss of revenue by inaugurating, say, a five per cent. tax upon hotel bills?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I have noted my hon. and gallant Friend's suggestion. There is considerable disparity between the relief and the recoupment.
