HC Deb 10 February 1927 vol 202 c284
41. Mr. GILLETT

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is prepared to appoint a Committee to inquire into the working of the Bank Act, 1844, and into the principles on which a central bank should be founded and should conduct its operations?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I am not aware of any sufficient grounds to justify an inquiry of this character, which would certainly have an unsettling effect in many directions.
