§ 23. Mr. WESTWOOD(for Mr. BROMLEY) asked the Minister of Transport if he will consider the possibility of making a grant from the Road Fund for the purpose of freeing from toll the Walney Bridge, Barrow-in-Furness, which bridge carries an A 1-class road, the toll of which is a great tax on the townspeople and tradesmen who have to use the bridge?
§ Colonel ASHLEYNo application has been made to me in respect of this bridge, which has no importance for through traffic. In these circumstances, and as I understand the bridge is already owned by a local authority, I should not ordinarily be prepared to contribute towards the freeing of the bridge from tolls.
