HC Deb 20 December 1927 vol 212 cc202-3
23. Mr. WESTWOOD

(for Mr. BROMLEY) asked the Minister of Transport if he will consider the possibility of making a grant from the Road Fund for the purpose of freeing from toll the Walney Bridge, Barrow-in-Furness, which bridge carries an A 1-class road, the toll of which is a great tax on the townspeople and tradesmen who have to use the bridge?

Colonel ASHLEY

No application has been made to me in respect of this bridge, which has no importance for through traffic. In these circumstances, and as I understand the bridge is already owned by a local authority, I should not ordinarily be prepared to contribute towards the freeing of the bridge from tolls.
